[LISTEN] Chain Gang of 1974 – “Highwire Days”

Chain Gang of 1974 left us wanting more in 2022 with the April single release of “Wanting This” – pun very much intended – but 2023 is looking to be the year we get more music from Kamtin Mohager. From new Chain Gang material to his alternative/shoegaze project, Heavenward, fans are in for a good year!

New track, “Highwire Days,” delves into the anxiety of getting older and seeing things from a different perspective. Set to Chain Gang’s signature synthpop aesthetics, “Highwire Days” is vulnerable as it is therapeutic, for both artist and listener.

“I’ve always enjoyed singing straight from the heart.  My lyrics act as a form of therapy for me and what I may be going through. The moment I have the words written and begin to sing them, I start to feel some sort of relief. Some may say that I’m too vulnerable with my lyrics. But when I receive messages from fans saying that a specific song was the only thing to get them out of a dark place, then I know my instincts served me well,” shared Mohager.

“‘Highwire Days’ is one of those songs. I wanted to write a song that touched on the feeling of getting older and the anxiety life brings. Now being in my late-30’s, I have begun to view life with a different set of eyes. The freedom of being in your teens or 20’s slowly starts to fade away. At times, it does feel like you’re walking on a tightrope, hundreds of feet above the ground. So the visual concept of the song feels very important and cinematic to me. I once again got together with my dear friend Nathaniel Motte of the band 3OH!3 to collaborate on this song. We worked a lot together on the ‘Honey Moon Drips’ album and have been close friends for over 15 years.  It only felt natural to do this one together.”
