[Song Of The Day] Garbage – “Lick The Pavement”

Today’s Song Of The Day comes to you from another realm that we all hold so near and dear to our hearts: 1998.

While Garbage’s “Lick The Pavement” may have been a beloved b-side for hardcore fans, it is now a part of history as the band announces the 20th anniversary reissue of their legendary sophomore album, Version 2.0, due out on June 22 via Stunvolume/PIAS.

The reissue will feature the whole original album as well as 10 b-sides from the era, including “Lick The Pavement.” Exclusive standard and deluxe packages will be available via CD and vinyl. Can you hear me swooning?

Version 2.0 is in my opinion the quintessential Garbage record,” shared singer Shirley Manson. “We are all very grateful to the millions of people who took it to their hearts at the time it was released and to those who continue to love on it still.”

Version 2.0 has endured a legacy all it’s own at a time when technology was at the forefront of where we were headed, proving that Garbage were a crucial band to follow, leading forward-thinkers to produce music of the future: music we all know and love today.

“Version 2.0 is the sound of a band growing up, evolving, and more than anything, gaining confidence,” shared drummer and co-producer Butch Vig. “When we started recording, we made a conscious decision to not re-invent ourselves, but rather take everything we learned from our debut album and filter it through the new digital technology we were grappling with. Sonically, the album has moments of razor sharp clarity and soft beauty. Indeed, it’s possibly our best album.”

Garbage will be playing a series of live dates in support of the Version 2.0 anniversary. US dates to be announced soon. Find UK dates here.
