[Pick Of The Week] joan – “don’t wanna be your friend”

Arkansas indie-pop duo, joan, have made their return with new track, “don’t wanna be your friend,” and needless to say, we are beyond ecstatic! After almost a year since the wave era with the band’s hi and bye EPs released late last year, the duo have been hard at work on their debut album due out next year.

“don’t wanna be your friend” starts off this new era effortlessly. Co-written with friend Jon Capeci of Nightly, the track delves into the all too relatable feelings of knowing you need to move on from a relationship you once cherished, knowing this person just isn’t right for you.

The band shared, “It’s also about growing up and knowing that you just can’t continue being friends with each other, because you know how that situation turns out. Hope this song resonates with you in some way – makes you realize you need to cut that person out of your life, makes you move, makes you want to start a band, makes you want to call your best friend. 🙂

The track’s accompanying video is classic joan at it’s best with a lighthearted alien invasion twist perfect for spooky season!
