[Daily Discovery] Rainsford

The ways we tend to stumble upon music these days are probably my most favorite stories to tell. My journey upon discovering indie-pop queen, Rainsford, was one of intentional desire to attend Aly & AJ’s Gramercy Theatre show in NYC during their Promises tour (that’s tonight for all you lucky ticketholders!) which later fell through due to it being sold out. However, the vibes that run rampant throughout Rainsford’s short yet sweet catalog are enough to keep anyone hooked for life.

After coming to indie prominence in 2016 with her debut single, “S.I.D,” the singer – real name Rainey Qualley, daughter of actress Andie MacDowell – went on to release “Too Close,” the beloved “Rendezvous,” and most recently, her debut EP, Emotional Support Animal.

Blending seductive electronic dark-pop elements with scintillating synths and nods to R&B, Rainsford proves to be an underrated force of nature in an industry starved of raw talent and genuine artistry. Fans of Banks, early Mariah Carey, and Lana Del Rey: get ready to meet your new obsession.
