[WATCH] Honestly – “Music For Veuve”

Just when you think they couldn’t get any better, indie-pop duo, Honestly, continue to surprise us. They’ve teased this one for a while, and the music video for “Music For Veuve” is finally here!

Taken off of the band’s extended version of their debut album, Inside Your Eyes, Without You Beside Me, “Music For Veuve” is an electro/house dream with the track’s accompanying video – directed by Stephen Cwiok – even more so, encapsulating the overall Honestly aesthetic effortlessly.

““Music For Veuve’ is the moment where Dalton told me ‘we need a song that sounds like Salon’ which is a now closed bar/dance club in Providence RI,” shared singer Eric Canto. “This club was everything to us in 2018. The trippy/deep electro sounds we heard in that basement club were so inspiring and it was catalyst to our obsession with deep house and alternative house music. This song started off as a 4 min version of just the drop you hear in the song. It wasn’t until months later that those electro-funk verses were added along with vocals. The lyrics are just poem I had written that I slightly augmented to fit the phrasing and pace so I could sing it. It was very much unlike our usual writing process. It’s the only song of ours with deliberate hard tuning on the lead vocals to further imply the electro vibe. This song came before I Die on Sunset, so it was was our first time utilizing the boots-and-cats house music rhythm. We were very excited about that.”

“The music video was shot on April 7, 2021 at 2AM on the top of Runyon Canyon in Los Angeles, CA. Dalton had vacationed there at one point and had a passcode to a gated part of the area where only few people have access. We couldn’t believe but we got through the gate. We had just spent the entire day filming the video for ‘< Lovers’ and Stephen (Cwiok) had his camera gear. We had no choice but to dance above the city and shoot an impromptu visual for our favorite deep cut off the new album at the time. Shit was electric.”
