[Song Of The Day] VISTA – “Witch Hunt”

New York alt-rock duo, VISTA – comprised of lead vocalist Hope Vista and guitarist Greg Almeida – have a lot to be excited about this year! With their upcoming The Bloodlust Tour hitting the road this summer and new track, “Witch Hunt,” on the rise, there’s nothing these two cannot conquer.

“Witch Hunt” is a scintillating interpretation of the combination of hysteria and lack of trust plaguing the entertainment industry and political world with pounding drums and electro-pop sensibilities that is sure to gain momentum this summer.

The duo shared some thoughts on what inspired the track exclusively for TDL:

“To sum it up briefly; we were on tour in November while that big wave of sexual assault allegations/accusations was coming around. We were all in a van together, reading about these incidents, while having a really hard time dealing with a bunch of tour-related shit. All of these stresses together, in a small 15 passenger van, really created an odd atmosphere. Our whole crew did not feel like we knew who to trust. Hope and I wanted to write about that feeling. We wanted to write about that hysteria. Prior to that, I had never really felt so hysteric, and like I had to “look behind my back” wherever I went. It was really crazy. I hope I don’t feel like that again anytime soon. This shit sucks to read about. It has definitely plagued the industry, and I’m hoping that the stories of these brave victims can bring forth some light going forward, and make people think clearly before they act in the future. It really hurts my heart having to find out about this type of situation with person after person in the industry.” – Greg Almeida

“I’ll be dead honest here, during our last tour in November, I almost called off the tour halfway through. We were sitting in the van a week into the tour, a show in St Louis had just been cancelled, and I was sobbing my eyes out, screaming, because it was just one thing after another. Everything was going wrong. I told everyone I was done, I was quitting, going home, and the tour was just over. That was around the time the Weinstein effect really started kicking in, people we looked up to in the industry were under fire for some messed up shit, and we felt like we were walking on glass. We were finding out about a ton of it while driving from state to state, and we had nothing else to do but talk about it. We were both really hurt, it felt too close to home. We just wrote about everything we were feeling, and it turned into “Witch Hunt.” It’s not about one particular thing, person, or experience. I kept saying in the van on that tour, ‘who can we trust?’ I have no idea who we can trust, who I can trust. That’s what that lyric stemmed from, and I think it was the first lyric written for the track.” – Hope Vista
