[Pick Of The Week] Vaeda Black – “Drunken Tears”

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve heard from New York songstress, Vaeda Black. Luckily for us, new track “Drunken Tears,” has arrived and it is not one to be missed. Quite possibly the singer’s most entrancing track to date, this is where Black flourishes.

Haunting as it is infectious, “Drunken Tears” portrays Vaeda Black at her most poignant, channeling a dark side that fans of Billie Eilish and Melanie Martinez will drool over.

“‘Drunken Tears’ was one of the first songs I wrote when I was learning how to play the piano about 4 years ago. It is a story song, about luring someone into a bar, getting completely trashed, and fantasizing about murdering them. I’ve always viewed this piece like a siren song. I’m saying things that are terrifying but they’re delivered inside a simple and alluring melody,” shared Black.

“Whenever I perform this song with my band I tell the audience ‘I just want to let you guys know I’m not going to viciously murder you after my set. I am okay mentally, I promise.’ It’s one of those songs where I feel like I need to make people feel safe before I sing the lyrics staring directly at them. A big part of my belief around music is that you have to separate the artist from the art. I want people to see every part of me, and Drunken Tears lets me show people my darker side.”
