[Pick Of The Week] Basement Revolver – “Skin”

At last, our darlings Basement Revolver have returned with quite possibly the most relatable track of the year.

“Skin” is a telling, self-aware tale of never feeling good enough or comfortable in your own skin. The track’s accompanying video is a tearjerker featuring singer Chrisy Hurn-Morrison as she bares it all while struggling with the all-too-common demon of body positivity.

If you’ve struggled with body image issues yourself, you know all too well the emotional toll it can take on your overall wellbeing. “Skin” delves into everything you may have been afraid to speak out on, giving listeners the courage to work on acceptance and healing.

Perched on the edge of a dock when this song started to come into fruition, “Skin” is the first time Hurn-Morrison has ever explicitly written about her body and it has helped the singer to love the parts of herself that she has often scrutinized in the mirror.

“Making this video was one of the most terrifying things I have ever done. I have been afraid of my body for so long, this thing that felt like an alien that I have been forced to inhabit.” shared Hurn-Morrison on social media. “If you have ever struggled similarly, this is for you. May we learn to love ourselves together.”

“Skin” is set to be featured on the band’s forthcoming LP, Embody.
