[LISTEN] Katanak – “Lights of Tokyo”

There must be something in the water over in Australia, because the music coming out of there is just top notch!

Katanak  – the project of Brisbane musician Dylan Cattanach – has won us over with his new track, “Lights of Tokyo,” from his forthcoming debut EP.

An ode to those unexpected moments when you lock eyes with a stranger in a foreign land, “Lights of Tokyo” is an indie-pop meets alternative dream reminiscent of flor meets COIN and The 1975.

Self-produced by Katanak, with help from Matt McGuffie (Ivy), and Aidan Hogg (Jaguar Jonze, Hope D), “Lights of Tokyo” is an anthemic love story that’ll keep you on your toes, wondering what will happen next.

“’Lights of Tokyo’ was among one of the first lot of songs I ever wrote and it’s still my favourite track to play live. Back when I wrote this track, I was influenced by early 2000’s Australian rock and artists such as Powderfinger and Pete Murray. Matt McGuffie was able to transform it and give it a totally UK modern rock/indie pop sound. I was stoked to find that Aidan Hogg was also a huge fan of the bands I listened to, so it was easy to convey to him exactly what I wanted this track to sound like. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it!”
