[WATCH] Olen – “So Codependent”

You might remember Olen Kittelsen from numerous musical endeavors. He went by the name of Armors, releasing some killer indie-pop which led him to work with artists such as Aly & AJ and Olivver The Kid. Then there’s his brief stint with 1990nowhere. However, what he’s been cooking up now under his own name, Olen, is not to be missed!

Stories like Olen’s are our favorite kind. Described as always being “kind of a late bloomer,” the singer/songwriter is ready for his big debut after nearly a decade into his career. The Orange County, CA native is sharing his heart on his sleeve with his forthcoming debut EP, So Codependent, and the title track is straight out of a 90’s alternative rock dream!

Starting out as a joke between Olen and co-writer, Tom Peyton, “So Codependent” became one of his favorite tracks off of the EP, and it’s music video is even more of a riot, making us wonder how many times they had to stop shooting due to breaking out in hysterics!

We were writing in Ryan Spraker’s studio when I started playing the ‘So Codependent’ chord progression and rhythm on my acoustic,” says Olen. Tom started singing the beginning of what became the verse melody, and we burst out laughing because we thought it would be hilarious if we tried to write something that could’ve been a Third Eye Blind song. It started as a joke but is now one of my favorite songs on the new EP. It’s the title track and well, about being so, so codependent.”
