[Listening Party] Garbage – ‘Strange Little Birds’

Well folks, the day has finally come. Garbage has unleashed their sixth album, Strange Little Birds, into the world today. If you’re an avid reader of The Daily Listening, you know how much this band means to me and how I’ve been counting down the days until I could finally hold this album in my hands.

I want this album to take you somewhere. I want you to allow yourselves to be vulnerable for at least one hour. I want you to sort through whatever demons you may have and then, at the end, I want you to rise higher than you’ve ever imagined. If this record teaches us anything, it’s that avoiding our pain solves nothing as it only continues to build up until it becomes an uncontrollable monster.

I want you to put “Blackout” on the highest volume possible and I want you to sink your teeth into its lyrics. I want you to see Shirley Manson as I see her: a healer, a human being, a queen who’s flawed yet fabulous. I want you to feel things you were once afraid to feel, then I want you to work through those things and wake up the next day without that burden you’ve been carrying.

Let this record be the therapy session you couldn’t afford or always avoided. We only get one life and every emotion is meant to be felt and conquered.
