[WATCH] COIN – “Cutie”

If you found yourself watching the new video from COIN today saying, “Good Lord, how are they so perfect?” you’re not alone! Directed by the band’s very own Chase Lawrence and Louis Browne, the new video for “Cutie” is a remarkable and memorable next step into the band’s new album chapter.

For some reason, watching a band perform in a box in music videos is so aesthetically pleasing. Maybe it’s a 90’s nostalgia thing, but please don’t let it end.

After teasing us with “Chapstick,” last fall, COIN are back to bring us “Cutie” – and believe me when I say that we won’t be able to look at a tangerine with nonchalance ever again. A mixture of Foster The People meets Passion Pit, “Cutie” is an electric synthpop dream, making listeners crave a juicy new album from the band.

“Three versions of us exist at all times – the actual, superficial, & digital. These identities are always changing, each one informing the other. How can we know which is even ‘real’? How can I expect to limit someone to the context of my own self-awareness? ‘Cutie’ zooms in on control, change, and confusion. On a lighter note, the song is about AI tasting a tangerine for the first time. Throw the ingredients in the musical blender.”
