[REVIEW] The Faim – ‘Summer Is a Curse’ EP

It has been some time due for Australian rockers The Faim to have a collection of songs released. They have been very busy touring with all your favourite bands – Lower Than Atlantis, Sleeping With Sirens, PVRIS, and most recently Against The Current on the upcoming UK run – and the wait for new material is finally over!

Their debut EP Summer Is a Curse showcases a wide range of potential with five new songs in addition to the previously released title track that quickly became a fan favourite over the summer. Influences come from all over the place with lots of upbeat theatrics most likened to P!ATD, Set It Off and Imagine Dragons.

The Faim also don’t shy away from including EDM elements – “I Can Feel You” relies heavily on this while “My Heart Needs To Breathe” progresses from a dramatic emo-like intro to something way different towards the end. “When It Comes” is the only one that feels like a slightly weaker effort from the rest as the voice effect distracts too much from its mellow flow, but still a good ratio from a debut EP.

We cannot wait to hear what they cook together for the upcoming full-length debut, especially seeing the amount of legendary cooks in that kitchen: Josh Dunn (Twenty One Pilots), Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy), Mark Hoppus (blink-182) and Ashton Irwin (5 Seconds of Summer) are all rumored to have added something to it.

Whatever the recipe, The Faim seemingly have success figured out.
