[Playlist] The Lady Marmalade of the Noughties – Women’s History Month Special

Since TDL is celebrating Women’s History Month, and a casual feel for nostalgia towards one specific era in music has never left, we present you this special playlist of the ladies that influenced our taste between 2000 and 2010.

Being a teenager throughout the decade that was the noughties certainly had its perks. Our lives still somewhat functioned without the internet (MySpace not included), MTV was still playing music and it’s fair to say that women dominated the pop scene.

Some of us may have fought over our love for Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera, then Madonna decided both were fine enough to kiss – way before Katy Perry liked it. The surfacing of Avril Lavigne as the sk8ter girl and P!nk, the bird-flipping rebel, opened new directions to teenage angst, becoming a huge influence for those who never got too into the aforementioned pop phenomenons (i.e. your truly).

In the end, it doesn’t even matter because we’re all still shamelessly singing along to all of their songs today and Beyoncé has been running the world since forever – although people like Alicia Keys, Nelly Furtado, Shakira or Lady Gaga may have tried to take over from time to time.

This playlist is massive – almost 60 songs and it’s far from complete, because too many feel-good memories and amazing girl power anthems have shaped an entire decade. Let’s get the party started, shall we?
