If you’ve been following St. Lucia since the beginning (that’s about 13 years – insert wow emoji here) you know all too well that they never disappoint!
Fans suspected their latest album, Fata Morgana: Dawn – released in March- might be a double album, and predictions were correct as the band revealed Fata Morgana: Dusk will be released on December 5.
Featuring new track, “Crimes of Passion,” Dusk leans more towards the band’s signature dance/pop element.
“Dusk is a dance/pop record influenced by 70s, 80s, and 90s dance music. The decision to split the larger body of work into two distinct yet reflective parts mirrors the multifaceted nature of our music, which oscillates between contrasting elements like introversion/extroversion and dark/light. This project marks the first time we’ve intentionally separated these aspects of their musical personality onto two interconnected records.”
“Crimes of Passion” was co-written by powerhouse sister duo, Aly & AJ – capturing a conversation between two lovers at a difficult turning point in the relationship.
“The idea came to me when I was on the flight to LA, as many great ideas seem to,” shared frontman Jean-Philip Grobler. “I’ve spoken about it many times, but there’s something about being on a plane and being squished into this little seat and having no access to any gear that I find inspiring. It’s funny how limitations can have that effect, it’s totally counterintuitive but it works almost every time. So anyway, I sketched the idea on my laptop and when I got into LA I had a bit of time to work on the idea, and I fleshed it out a little bit more. It all came together quickly and easily, most of what took the time was working on the lyrics but after a few hours we had it. It felt right that the lyrics are plainly spoken and not trying to be poetic, like a conversation between two lovers who are in a difficult situation but they’re both trying to be mature and honest about it. Without really trying to be or planning to be it feels like this is a bit of a female empowerment anthem.”
