[Pick Of The Week] Cyrano – “Afterburns”

Cyrano never fails to dazzle us with each release, and new track, “Afterburns,” is proof.

Chock full of late night magic and meditative euphoria, “Afterburns” speaks to the hearts of introverts and extroverts alike after a breakup.

“To me, the Afterburns of a relationship is when the coals are on the fire, and you’re wondering whether to give it another stoke for a flame. If you spend too much time thinking, it’ll just fade away,” shared the singer. “I wanted ‘Afterburns’ to personify my feelings, from the lyrics and melodies to its length and flow. The whole track is one big thought, and the most idiosyncratic song of my music for the late night overthinkers.”

After discovering the glorious world of Susan Cain and her revolutionary 2012 book, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking, Cyrano started to compare the duality of both mixes he had of “Afterburns” and how each one fit the vibe of introversion and extroversion. While it is rather unheard of for artists these days to release a six-minute track, this guy is releasing two killer versions of “Afterburns,” and how we experience both feels like a gift within itself.

Alongside the track release, Cyrano has created a personality test for listeners to identify whether they are introverted or extroverted, with their answers diverting them to either an Introverted or Extroverted version of “Afterburns.” My INFJ heart is buzzing right now! Take the quiz here!

“When I was living in Singapore, I was reading a book by Susan Cain called ‘Quiet’ about introversion and extroversion. At the same time, I was listening over the various mixes I’d been sent of Afterburns and I started to feel these qualities within two of the mixes. One felt like the type of song you’d want to sing along to in a festival crowd while the other felt like one for your earphones, and a moment for yourself.”

“Afterburns” is the third installment from the singer’s upcoming debut EP, Consolations.
