[LISTEN] Javi Jimenez – “Malibu”

Fresh off of the high of releasing his debut EP, Lovely, Costa-Rican indie-pop artist, Javi Jimenez, is back with a new track to delight listeners with!

“Malibu” is a straight up gem reminiscent of his influences, LANY and joan. Full of energy and synthpop for days, “Malibu” is set to be featured on a surprise new collection he will release later this year. Just in time for those spring and summer playlists, too!

For a track about daydreaming about a crush and the possibilities our minds conjure up, “Malibu” sure does deliver and we cannot wait to hear what else he has up his sleeve!

“‘Malibu’ is basically a song about daydreaming! I had a crush on someone that was taken. I met her while traveling and she cut her trip short, so I didn’t get to spend so much time with her, but I really felt like there was something there, although nothing really ever happened. That, to me, seemed super fun! The innocence of daydreaming about a crush and the uncertainty of not knowing whether she felt the connection too or not, it took me back to feeling like a teenager in love. I explore my daydream about being an overconfident hero and the both of us running away together to Malibu, ultimately breaking my fantasy and confidence by admitting that I’m not really sure if she’s into me at all, and I might just be getting my hopes up. But keeping that hope at the end of the song, letting her know that, if she does like me back, I’ll be waiting for her… in Malibu.”
