[Pick Of The Week] Javi Jimenez – “Haunt Me”

The thrill of discovering a brand spankin’ new artist releasing their debut single is still alive and well, and with the arrival of Costa Rica-based indie-pop singer Javi Jimenez, listeners are about to turn that excitement up to a ten!

Working alongside producer Mario Miranda (Patterns) Jimenez’s first single, “Haunt Me,” is a solid choice for his debut. After having played in multiple bands throughout the years, Javi decided to pursue a solo career, maintaining his alternative essence but with a more mainstream sound geared toward the indie-pop world.

Drenched in glimmering nostalgia and pretty synths, “Haunt Me” delves into the facade most people fall prey to when it comes to social media, especially when it comes to failed relationships and the phony notion of the other person pretending they’re living their best lives post-breakup.

Remembering the good and not-so-good times, “Haunt Me” is an anthem for those who find difficulty in moving on when everything keeps replaying in the back of your mind.

“I knew I wanted to do something special and make a good first impression with my debut, so I sent my demo to Mario, who I found because he produced one of my favorite albums, and some of my favorite bands,” shared Jimenez. “We discussed the sound and direction we wanted to give it a lot in the beginning. It took some reshaping and playing with different effects and structure, until we finally felt it starting to come together like we wanted it to be. The last thing we recorded were the guitars. When Alberto Álvarez (my guitarist) was done recording, we knew it just took it to another level. It’s a song full of nostalgia and perfect for driving down the highway with a dreamy sunset. A synthpop sound with some ’80s-inspired guitar hooks that you wanna dance to; all about trying to get over a relationship but struggling to get those memories out of your head.
