[LIVE] Night Riots @ Camden Assembly, London (with Inklings and Silent Rival)

Catching California band Night Riots for the first time ever on tour with The Maine back in September still holds the most memorable music discovery moment a fan can have from turning up to the support. Fast forward a few months and a UK support run with The Hunna later, the band finished off their first UK headline tour at Camden Assembly in London Tuesday night (April 10).

First performance of the night came from Inklings (new project of ex-Fearless Vampire Killers frontman Kier Kemp). Joining the line-up for a couple selected dates, they turned out to be a stylistically nice fit to the gloomy assemble of the Dark Violet tour. Second support act Silent Rival brought groovy and dark rock and roll that you will find yourself jamming out to afterwards; loved their energy.

The sold out event saw Night Riots deliver a stellar show. The captivating stage presence along with stunts like a drum circle and glow-up props surely catch a first-timer at their shows off guard (in the best way) and it eventually becomes reason of anticipation every other time you see them. While “Back To Your Love” x10 would be the ideal set list (just an ongoing joke between fans), Night Riots are one to often rotate their repertoire. This normally results in rocking out to jams like “Follow You” and “Don’t Kill The Messenger” while also mourning the loss from grace of others. The new release “Colour Morning” may not be a personal favourite but it works well live and the audience loves it; just like the cover of the Oasis classic “Wonderwall.” Going out with “Contagious,” the band’s biggest hit to date, Night Riots once again leave us in awe, wanting more.

In the end, it’s always rewarding to see artists not only genuinely enjoy what they do on stage but making sure their crowd gets a well thought-out show as well – it makes a whole lot of difference.
