Legendary alt-rockers, Garbage, are prepping for the release of their highly-anticipated eighth studio album, Let All That We Imagine Be The Light, on May 30. Fans were surprised with a pre-order back in February and have been dying for the album’s lead single, “There’s No Future In Optimism,” revealed today!
The track takes on the band’s signature in-your-face grit while delving into matters of a rather bleak society. However, don’t be fooled as the track is very much full of optimism, leaning into embracing love over fear and letting that notion lead the way.
“I love the title. The band sent it me and I was like, ‘This is great. I’m keeping that.’ But the lyrics are an action against that title. Because if we allow our fatalism or our negativity to really take over, we will crumble. It’s about a city, in my case, Los Angeles, but it could be anywhere where bad stuff is happening.” shared singer Shirley Manson.
Garbage will embark on a 31-city Happy Endings tour across North America this fall. Tickets and dates here.
