[WATCH] Melanie Martinez Throws Herself a “Pity Party”

You might remember Melanie Martinez from the third season of The Voice, capturing our hearts with her semi-maudlin renditions of indie hits. The singer released her debut EP, Dollhouse, last year, showing the world what she’s really capable of. Often called an American version of Lorde, Martinez aims to be nothing but herself, mixing all of her influences from pop, rock, indie, R&B and alternative into an epic mix of freakishly good tunage!

In Martinez’s new video for “Pity Party,” the singer tearfully awaits guests to arrive at her birthday party but seems to have been stood up. Sampling the chorus of the 1963 hit, “It’s My Party” by Lesley Gore, the track eerily reminds me of my school days, feeling as if everyone secretly hates you while wondering where you went wrong. Kids can be so cruel. Surrounded by little trinkets and pastels galore, the video looks like it was a blast to film and hey, there’s cake!

“Pity Party” is the first single off of the singer’s forthcoming debut LP, Cry Baby.

“Pity Party” is available now here.
