[LISTEN] RIA – “Broke Baby”

Growing up is hard to do but artists like San Diego’s RIA remind us that we don’t have to go it alone.

New track, “Broke Baby,” is an ode to growing through the pains of young adulthood while finding the comfort and power of solitude to fall back on. A refreshing take on indie-pop reminiscent of Melanie Martinez, “Broke Baby” shall be the buzz track that puts RIA on everyone’s radar.

“What ‘Broke Baby’ means to me is far from the literal meaning of broke, even though I usually find myself broke. It realms into a deeper meaning of solitude and misconception when it comes to life and it’s experiences. The role of broke baby is portrayed by a naive young girl going through the first lessons of life as a young adult, in the song I mention friends moving on and time going on and on, without catching a breath.

What I felt when writing this song was that love comes and goes through lessons and people come and go but in the end you have yourself to obtain and keep on track, and the girl that I portray in this role is just realizing the reality of growing up and the truth she sees on a daily basis, but the truth she sees is only within who she is. So, in the end she is alone and broken but she keeps going on no matter what.”
