I recently came across this electronic/R&B duo while scrolling through my Instagram feed and I was instantly hooked. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Alina Baraz is a 21 year old singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles, CA, while Matias Saabye Køedt, who works under the name Galimatias, is a Danish producer and the mastermind behind the tracks that back Baraz’s vocals. The two came together in 2013 via SoundCloud after Baraz wrote a song to one of Galimatias’ instrumentals, which ultimately led to the two working together and collaborating on the EP, Urban Flora, which was released on May 19, 2015.
While Baraz’s captivating and ethereal voice and Galimatias’ music could easily stand alone, they combine to create something amazing, in my opinion.
